Many people are concern about what to eat to lose weight. Following a calorie controlled diet can definitely assist you to lose those extra lbs and experience the end results of extra weight loss – yet how much can they help?
Studies
There have been limited trials to date into dietary systems that provide pre-packaged low calorie meals, yet 2 new studies have helped experts to get a better picture.
Study 1: performed on a group of 130 obese women for 12 months, each was provided with 2 low calorie pre-packaged meals and fluids every day for the first 12 weeks, before switching down to just 1 meal per day from months 3 to 6. When eaten alongside 1 hours daily exercise they witnessed average weight losses of 10kg-12kg in a year.
Study 2: conducted on a group of 442 obese women with Body Mass Index’s of 25-40, during this 2 year trial they were tested to see which was best – low calorie meals or advice from a nutritionist…
After 2 years it was discovered that those given the pre-packaged meal lost 300% more weight than those receiving nutritional advice: low calorie meals (average dietary losses 6-7kg), nutritional suggestions (average dietary losses of 2kg).
Are these trials reliable?
Even though both trials clearly demonstrate the perks of getting dietary support, the second trial is the most reliable as researchers were able to assess pre-packaged meals against nutritional advice.
However even with these figures, these results should be considered carefully…
Provided with these meals for 1-2 years for no cost at all, it is difficult to determine if these figures would have been as big if individuals had had to purchase these meals themselves or if they had got less support.
